World Elder Abuse Awareness Day organized at Palampur, a senior citizen facility run by HelpAge India.
• The chief guest of this program was Tehsil Welfare Officer (T.W.O) Palampur Mr. Manjul Thakur, apart from him Mr. Jagmohan Kumar retired Professor & Head VEGITABLE & FLORICULTURE was also present in this program organized by helpage india mainly with the elderly in India. Helpage India also released its national report on elder abuse. He raised awareness about elder abuse. He also made the elderly aware of their rights and also informed about the national schemes for the elderly. Then he asked the elders about their needs and problems. In which many elders participated enthusiastically.
Shri Manjul Thakur also discussed the needs of services and social security for senior citizens, protecting their rights and enabling them to contribute to the development process.
He suggested people to spend more time and communicate with elders, show genuine gestures, act responsibly and respect them.
Manish Kumar, coordinator of Senior Citizen Facilitation Centre, a day care center run by HelpAge India in Palampur, while sharing the activities going on in this center highlighted the facilities being provided to all the senior citizens (free physiotherapy, weekly health check-up camp, recreational activities and awareness camp). While Dr Komal Arora, Dr Shivani Thakur, assistants Gurpreet and Mangala Devi and some elderly mothers working at the center also shared their views.
