Drinking Water Project Initiated in Kharar Following State Rights Commission’s Directive

Kharar: Residents of Shivalik Vihar can now look forward to a reliable supply of drinking water, as the installation of new tube wells has commenced in the area. This development comes after the Punjab State Human Rights Commission intervened in the matter.
The issue was brought to the Commission’s attention through a petition filed by a local resident, Arun Kumar, and his legal counsel, SS Dhanjal. They reported a critical lack of access to potable water and alleged inaction by the local municipal authorities in addressing the problem.
According to Arun Kumar, the Commission had called upon officials from the Kharar Municipal Council to provide an explanation. During the proceedings, the Council’s Executive Officer apprised the Commission that the installation of the tube wells is now underway, with approximately 80 percent of the work already finished.
Taking this update into account, the presiding officer of the Commission has scheduled the next hearing in the case for November 13, 2025. The court has directed the Executive Officer of the Kharar Municipal Council to formally submit a status report upon the project’s completion.
