CSIR- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT) Palampur organized 7th Student Seminar Series-2023 on the occasion of Teachers Day (5th September 2023). The theme for this year seminar series was ‘Research, Revenue, Revolution- Scientific Innovation in Himalayan Bioresource’.
The Chief Guest for this event was Prof. Rajendra Singh Sangwan, former Director and Vice Chancellor, AcSIR; former CEO, DBT-Centre for Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing, Mohali. In his address he said, in today’s time acquiring knowledge is not enough, the need of the hour is to do something new to utilize that knowledge. This requires team spirit, positive thinking and facing challenges. He inspired the youth to think about the future problems and bring innovations in research through science.
Furthermore, Dr. Pratap Kumar Pati, Head, Department of Biotechnology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, (GNDU) delivered the Alumni Invited Lecture. In his lecture, he talked about his academic journey from CSIR-IHBT to GNDU. Further, he also deliberated upon Medicinal Plants Biotechnology, Herbal Medicines and Challenges.
Dr. Gopaljee Jha, Scientist, National Institute of Plant Genome Research delivered an invited talk on the topic “Exploiting Endophytic Microbes for Sustainable Agriculture”.
Earlier, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director, CSIR-IHBT, welcomed all the guests, students and staff of CSIR-IHBT and congratulated them on National Teacher’s Day. He elucidated the significance of a teacher in student’s life. Additionally, he spoke about the various scientific achievements of CSIR-IHBT in the advancement of Bioeconomy.
In this 7th Student Seminar Series, in addition to Oral Presentations, Poster Sessions, Flash Talks; competitions on Scientific Meme, Photography and Videography were also organized. Prizes were given to the winners of various events.
Moreover, an exhibition related to scientific achievements and the model of Chandrayaan-3 landing on moon was the center of attraction of the event.
On this occasion, five MoU’s were also signed, one each with Government Ayurvedic College, Paprola and MCM DAV College, Kangra for educational exchange. Whereas three MoU’s were signed with different entrepreneurs on transfer of material and use of research facilities of the institute.
The seminar series started with tree plantation and Saraswati Vandana and ended with a cultural programme.
