Pensioners Threaten Agitation if Demands Not Met by February 28

Palampur, February 11 – The Pensioners’ Welfare Association of Himachal Pradesh’s Palampur City Unit convened a meeting under the leadership of newly appointed President Suresh Pathania. The gathering was graced by the presence of Suresh Thakur, Senior Vice President of the state association and Kangra District President, as the chief guest.
During the meeting, unanimous elections were held, resulting in the following appointments:
- President: Suresh Pathania
- Senior Vice President: Rajinder Jaryal
- General Secretary: M.S. Rana
- Additional General Secretary: Hemant Sharma
- Chief Advisor: Govardhan Pathania
- Treasurers: Jagdev Thakur and Suresh Rana
- Vice President: Kuldeep Thakur
- Press Secretary: Rajinder Dohru
Additional executive members include Urmila Sharma, Rajinder Verma, Pratap Dogra, Ramesh Pathania, Sita Ram Dhiman, Madhu Dhiman, Sudarshan Sharma, M.P. Vashishta (Chief Organization Secretary), and Uttam Bhatt and Sudesh Sood (Chief Patrons).
Representatives from various blocks also participated, including Surendra Dhiman (President, Baijnath Block), Pawan Dhiman (President, Rait Block), Sant Ram Kalotra (President, Panchrukhi Block), and Daljeet Kumar (General Secretary, Panchrukhi Block).
In his address, President Suresh Pathania expressed gratitude to all members for their trust and support. Discussions during the meeting highlighted concerns over the government’s delay in addressing the pensioners’ longstanding demands. Suresh Thakur informed attendees about state and district-level activities and emphasized that if the government fails to meet the pensioners’ demands by February 28, a state-wide agitation will be initiated.
The association has been vocal about issues such as timely disbursement of pensions, release of pending dearness allowance installments, and the constitution of a joint consultative committee to address pensioners’ grievances. In previous instances, the Himachal Pradesh Pensioners’ Welfare Association has threatened protests over delays in pension disbursement and other unresolved issues.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to intensify efforts if the government remains unresponsive to their demands.
