Shri Sanjeev Gandhi, IPS was born in a village of Tehsil Arki, Distt Solan. He completed his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in the year 1996 and practiced law at the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Shimla before joining the Himachal*Sanjeev Gandhi IPS ,an exceptional leader,A mentor and role-model for all police officers in the state* Pradesh Police in the year 1999 as Deputy Superintendent of Police.
He has served as Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nurpur, SDPO Palampur, SDPO Ghumarwin, SDPO Sundernagar and Dy.S.P. (HQ) Bilaspur. Later he was posted as Dy.S.P. Police Training College (PTC), Daroh, Kangra and then as Additional Superintendent of Police, District Kangra. He also served as Superintendent of Police, State Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB), Mandi Range, S.P. Police Training College (PTC), Daroh, Commandant 1st Himachal Pradesh Armed Police
(HPAP) Battalion, Junga, District Superintendent of Police Kangra and Una.
He has successfully investigated many cases of heinous crimes like a case registered under Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO) in 2002 at Nurpur. As Additional S.P. Kangra, he led a team constituted for counter militancy operation and arrested two A category militants of a J&K outfit.
During his tenure as District S.P Kangra he initiated many innovative campaigns like “No Helmet- No Petrol” to reduce casualties in road accidents. Another campaign the “River Guards” was started to prevent deaths of tourists and natives due to drowning in Rivers which drastically reduced the number of drowning cases in the District. He was also associated with the “Traffic School” initiative, a drive which educated more than 25,000 Middle and High School going children about rules of road and road safety. Owing to initiatives taken during his tenure in Kangra, there was a visible reduction in deaths and injuries in road traffic accidents.
To reduce suspicious deaths, occurring due to falls an initiative, “Evening Patrols” a
sustained and daily campaign of patrolling was started. It was hugely successful in
leaving an impact by curbing road side drinking habits, drunken driving & helped in
visibly improving women safety.
Under his command Kangra police busted an inter-state gang involved in more than 50 ATM thefts in Punjab and H.P. During his posting in District Kangra he managed to freeze illegal property worth more than 7 crores. Due to his result oriented and impact making approach as District S.P Kangra and Una more than 700 cases were registered under ND&PS Act and Drugs & Cosmetics Act. It was due to his efforts that many previously legal drugs which were prone to abuse were added to the schedule of the NDPS Act, thereby bringing them in the ambit of direct police action.
He is currently posted as Commandant, 2nd Indian Reserve Police Battalion (IRBn). Sakoh, District Kangra where he has successfully imparted Basic Training to 5 Batches of Constables, 2 Batches of Sub Inspectors and 2 Batches of Dy. S.P of State Police and one batch of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. After the Galwan incident on Indo China border, he visited District Kinnaur to build confidence of the border population and to reduce apprehension amongst them. His priority during the current posting is ensuring a disciplined and fit police force.
He is a recipient of DGP Disc & “Road Safety and Best Administrator Award” by “Divya Himachal Group” for his impactful initiatives. A rigorously disciplined, meticulous and efficient police officer, he has made a mark with his unique and inimitable style of working.
